About the Artist
Maria de los Angeles was born in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. A Mexica Dancer and Medicine Woman, and she was inducted in the Cuauhtli Iyarieya group in 1994 and has shared dances with different heads of the Bajío, including Daniel Salazar, Chief Domingo, Cyril Ramon, and head of Mayahuel group, Otomíes.
Since 1996, she shares and receives the medicine and ceremonies of the Wixarika. Her first guide was her grandfather and Mara’akame Pablo Taizan. In 2000, she started to receive teachings from the Native American indigenous. She learned ceremonies such as vision quest, temazcalli, working with the energy of the moon, and Peruvian ceremonies.
Her skills also range as a “temazcalera” (one who guides a temazcal/sweat lodge) where she has lead several initiations in Monterrey, Mexico.
She is also founder and dancer of her aztec dance group, Atlaxinolli.
